Bottled Fairy Dust Necklace: A Tween Craft Idea

Do you have a kiddo who has a love for all things sparkly?  Our kids have discovered Dr. Who and have become obsessed with all things weebly wobbly, sonic screwdrivers, and Time Lords. We recently created giant galaxy jars, and they loved it so much, I wanted to try a similar idea.

Today, the kids created fairy dust necklaces, or bottled up stars.

My older tween calls this her Galaxy Necklace, and my elementary-aged kiddo calls it her fairy dust! Either way, these are fun, easy to make and sure to bring a smile!

Layer the cotton colors with glitter and plain white cotton bits. This part is so fun because you can go with whatever pattern or color choice you want!

Add several drops of oil to the top of your jar before you put the cap on it.

These necklaces work great as essential oil necklace  diffusers. The scents diffuse through the cap throughout the day!

What Do I Need To Make Necklaces and DIY Jewelry?

The best thing about making DIY necklaces and other DIY jewelry, is that you can work with what you have!

I keep old pieces of jewelry that have fallen into disrepair. I also find cool pieces at garage sales, or on the clearance rack that have a broken clasp, etc. Upcycling items like this into a new piece, with materials and tools you already have around the house, makes it a cheap hobby!

If you’re looking to invest in jewelry making tools, I always say to start out small, and see if you use it or like it before buying a ton of things.

I love these little plastic containers with compartments to keep all of my beads, clasps, wires, and small pieces separated. I prefer clear ones, so that I can easily see what I have.

This jewelry making toolkit is the coolest! It comes with wire and all of the tools you need to make (and repair) jewelry.

Just remember, you can tailor this crafting project to fit your budget!
